THE DAWN OF A NEW ERA IN KENYA BOXING

0

For the first time ever since its inception in 1981, the Kenya National Boxing League will be transmitted live on December 21 in Homabay, Western Kenya Region.

Boxing Federation of Kenya (BFK) will achieve a historic milestone through this live transmission on their YouTube Channel, marking a significant advancement for the sport in Kenya.

A hefty pat on the back to the federation’s leadership for their foresight to engage Communication Director, Duncan Kuria, to shoot footage of the Kenyan boxers taking part in various international championships. This rich collection of videos has come in handy for BFK’s YouTube Channel. You will now be able to watch the Kenyan boxers battling it out in major international tournaments, training sessions and national league action too.

BFK’s live transmission of the national league in Homabay in this modern digital era serves as a vital tool for popularising the sport and a magnet for attracting sponsorship. It also eliminates geographical barriers by allowing fans to directly engage with the sport regardless of their location and offers several benefits including more exposure for the boxers and fostering a wider fan base.

This ambitious initiative – funded by BFK – positively influences the image of the federation, aligning it with modern broadcasting trends. It also demonstrates BFK’s commitment to the development of boxing in Kenya as well as improving the performance of boxers now that they will be watched live in action nationwide and globally.

For decades, TV was the only way to transmit live sporting events in Kenya and elsewhere but now with the advent of social media, BFK will easily connect and interact with their fans on their own YouTube Channel which is a significant step forward in embracing modern digital technology. As such, this landmark live streaming in Homabay and other future events will not only elevate the status of local boxers and BFK but also sets the stage for faster growth of boxing in Kenya.

The first live transmission will only focus on the finals of the league on Saturday, December 21. Award-winning former BBC broadcast journalist JOHN NENE will be the chief commentator bringing on board his wealth of experience and expertise gained in local print media and the broadcasting industry at the BBC World Service whom he served for over 20 years. The back-up team comprises knowledgeable people in this combat sport to add more depth and educate our viewers on the technical aspects of boxing. Swahili will be the main language in our transmission spiced up with English where necessary especially for guests who will be uncomfortable with Swahili.

Among the important guests to be interviewed during the live show is BFK’s influential President, Anthony “Jamal” Otieno, who will reflect on their most successful ever season, challenges and other important issues including the proposed introduction of a new exciting tournament that will see deserving boxers laughing all the way to the bank.

The three-day final national league in Homabay will also be covered intensively by Africa’s fast-growing boxing site boxersworld.co.ke

Boxing is our staple food.
