He outpointed tough Russian boxer in the finals of a youth international tournament in Russia

A big win for South African boxer Meko Ayabonga in Russia today, September 13.

Fighting Russia’s Ivan Dobrinin in the finals of the Eurasian Dauria Cup Youth Tournament in Chita, Russia, Ayabonga outpointed the Dobrinin to win the featherweight belt.

The South African boxer was very aggressive always on the front foot, displaying an admirable mental bravery against Dobrinin who had an edge tactically.

Ayabonga’s main strategy was using repeated energy-sapping body blows that weakened his opponent who made a late rally in the third round but by then it was took late to make up the leeway. Ayabonga had carried the day.

In addition to South Africa, other African countries represented in the Russia tournament were Tunisia and Zimbambwe.
