In her latest victory the DR Congo boxer KO’d Zambia’s Violet Phiri
DR Congo’s Brigitte Mbabi knocked out Zambia’s Violet Phiri in her latest victory in Ndola, Zambia.
Mbabi sent the Zambian to bed in the sixth round of their welterweight bout to maintain her sparkling form in pro boxing.
In an interview with boxersworld.co.ke, Mbabi said Phiri made three trips to the canvas.
“She’s a good boxer but I proved tougher than her, I floored her three times,” said Mbabi from her home in Lubumbashi.
With that victory, Mbabi is now unbeaten in four fights (4-0, 4 KOs) according to info in Boxrec, the website that keeps boxers’ records.
She has lost once to Russia’s Azalia Amineva in IBA.Pro boxing but Boxrec does not record results in IBA.Pro.
The 23-year-old Mbabi turned pro at the end of 2024 after winning gold in the Africa Elite Championships in Kinshasa. She stopped Morocco’s Toutir Mounir in the second round.
Mbabi started boxing in 2016 with her elder sister Marie Joelle Mwika at Ali Boxing Club in Lubumbashi under the tutelage of their late dad Emmanuel Blaise Mwika.
“My father helped me a lot in boxing, he gave me useful tips,” said Mbabi.
In addition to her gold in Kinshasa, Mbabi also won gold in the inaugural Mandela African Boxing Cup in Durban, 2024.
Mbabi was one of the two boxers together with Marcelat Sakobi who represented DR Congo in the Paris Olympics, losing controversially to Thailand’s Janjaem Suwannapheng.
