Tanzania placed second in the four-nation event in Comoros with Ramadhan Mazola named the best R&J
Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Kassim Mbundwike and Ezra Paul were the toast of Tanzania’s national boxing team in the finals of the four-nation boxing tournament in Moroni, Comoros, on Monday night, July 7.
The two boxers beat their Comoros’ opponents to win two gold medals while Kaimu Kaimu and Rashid Mrema settled for bronze medals.
Mbundwike outpointed Soilihi Anzali in the light-middleweight division while lightweight Ezra Paul beat Radjay Mohamed.
Comoros boxers got the better of the other two Tanzanians making their international debut. Bantamweight Kaimu Kaimu went down to Mohamed Ali while Ilzam Taoufik outpointed Rashid Mrema at light-welterweight.
Tanzania finished second behind overall winners Comoros, Gabon third followed by Madagascar.
Tanzania’s international Star-1 R&J Ramadhani Mazola was voted the best of them all not to mention Mbundwike and Ezra receiving smartphones from YAS company, one of the sponsors of the tournament used to commemorate Comoros 50 years of Independence.
“We’re now reaping from what we sowed by empowering our R&Js and coaches through IBA courses,” said a proud Boxing Federation of Tanzania President Lukelo Willilo.
Among the spectators in the finals at Malouzini Stadium was Tanzania’s Ambassador to Comoros Said Yakubu and Comoros President Azali Assoumani.
