The rise of a new generation of youthful boxers in Eswatini determined to stamp their authority at the big stage

Eswatini’s young boxing stars stole the spotlight at the Lesotho National Youth Games, bringing home two gold medals in spectacular fashion.

The friendly games between Eswatini and Lesotho wrapped up in Maseru with Eswatini securing 12 medals overall — but it was the boxers who set the tone for victory.

Calvin Gumbi battled his way to the top, winning his first fight in the semis to advance to the final, where he powered through to claim gold. His teammate, Nothando Mshayise, made the most of her shot in the women’s final — winning gold in dominant style after receiving a bye in the semi-finals. Their victories lit the spark for Eswatini’s medal rush across all events.

The twin triumphs in the ring proves Eswatini boxing is on the rise, with a new generation ready to carry the torch into regional and continental competitions.
