▪️Angola’s Victor Tewase steps into the ring for a bruising quarter-final, meeting Russia’s number one elite squad member Andrey Kotusov
September 10, 2026
The 18 African boxers taking part in the Eurasian Dauria International Youth Boxing Tournament in Chita, Russia, may not be excelling but the exposure they’re gaining will stand them in good stead in future tournaments.
Eight of them are already out as the gruelling competition enters Day 3 today, September 10, 2026.
The continent’s remaining 10 fighters face a steep uphill battle against highly exposed European and Asian opponents.
Due to a severe lack of international exposure, lack of incentives, poor facilities and little input from their respective governments, the African youth enter the ring heavily disadvantaged compared to rivals backed by packed elite, youth, and junior tournaments.
In Africa, there is no consistent calendar of events and constant exposure not to mention the irregularly held youth tournaments. So far Africa has never staged a junior boxing event. It’s everybody for himself and God for us all. Leaders mostly focus on positions, petty personal issues and rarely discuss the technical aspects of their respective boxers because they’re least bothered on what goes on in the ring.
Five African boxers anchor today’s card, headlined by a quarter-final clash featuring Angola’s lightweight Victor Tewase in a true David-vs-Goliath matchup against Andrey Kutosov, representing Russia’s elite number-one team.
Here is today’s full lineup featuring the African contenders
