He will defend his Japanese welterweight title and vie for WBO Asia Pacific crown

The die is cast. There’s no retreat, no surrender for Uganda’s David “Tank” Ssemujju (8-1-0, 4 KOs) as he returns to the ring on Thursday, August 21, at the Korakuen Hall in Tokyo.

On the opposite corner will be Japan’s Kosei Nogami (4-0-0, 2 KOs) whom Ssemujju says he will flatten to retain his Japanese welterweight title and capture the vacant World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Asia Pacific belt.

“I don’t know much about my opponent but like I said earlier I will destroy him, I’m psyched up for the fight,” Ssemujju told boxersworld.co.ke in an interview from Tokyo.

Ssemujju, based in Nagoya, travelled to Tokyo by train accompanied by his Ugandan coach Jeff Nygoi who organised for Ssemujju’s relocation to Japan.

“We just took one hour and 45 minutes by bolte train to arrive in Tokyo, it’s very hot here,” said Nygoi, brother to former Ugandan international boxer John Bosco Igoe now based in London.

Ssemujju weighed 66 kg and his Japanese opponent 66.60kg.

“After weigh-in he only took fruits, and maybe later he’ll eat some rice and chicken,” said Nygoi.
