Cruiserweight Baguiguana beats Russian to move to the last eight
Three Cameroon boxers are in the quarter-finals of an international tournament which started on Tuesday, September 9, in Chechen Republic’s capital city Grozny, Russia.
Africa cruiserweight bronze medallist Baguiguana Beb Georges defeated a Russian opponent in the round of 16 to join compatriots, African Games light-heavyweight bronze medallist Fotouo Totap Junior and Oumarou Mohamed, in the quarter -finals.
Totap meets an opponent from Kazakhstan and Oumarou fights a Russian. They both received byes to the last eight.
Efforts to get names of their opponents from head coach Alain Didier Ngatcha were unsuccessful.
“Everything here is in their native Russian language even the programme I can’t read what they have printed in their language,” Ngatcha told boxersworld.co.ke from Grozny in a telephone interview.
Africa minimumweight champion, Wouang Marcial, is the other Cameroon boxer in Grozny.
The international tournament in Grozny is in memory of the first President of Chechen Republic, Akhmat Hadji Kadyrov.
