NAIROBI THE MECCA OF BOXING IN KENYA HEAD TO KAMPALA

Just a few days ago NCBA hosted a spectacular Novice Championship, and today, Nairobi boxing honcho Mr. Benjamin Musa, alongside Nairobi MCA’s Hon. Cecila and Hon Shadrack, attained another significant milestone!

A 14-member Nairobi City County Boxing team, consisting of 11 men and 3 women, will represent Nairobi City County at the Inter-Cities Boxing Championship in Kampala, Uganda next week courtesy of HE Govenor Sakaja.

The dynamic partnership between the Nairobi County Boxing Association and the County Government of Nairobi is also expected to address one of the main challenges facing boxing in Nairobi: the lack of modern boxing gyms. The Governor has committed to build 17 social halls in each Sub county, fully furnished with all the equipment needed for boxing, including standard boxing rings.

Some of Kenya’s top boxers Nairobi County has produced include the only Kenyan boxer so far to have won a world title Steve “Destimo” Muchoki and his younger brother Mike “Stone” Irungu, Los Angeles Olympics bronze medallist Ibrahim “Surf” Bilali, the first black African boxer to win an Olympic gold medal Robert “Aruba” Wangila, 1994 Commonwealth Games champ Omar Ahmed “Kasongo” and 1982 Commonwealth Games champ Mike “Spinks” Mutua to mention but a few.
