UGANDA’S BWOGI TO VIE FOR ABU AFRICA TITLE ON DEC 20
Unbeaten Ugandan ABU East and Central Africa super-middleweight champion Shadir Bwogi continues his relentless march towards a world championship fight.
On December 20, 2024, Bwogi (7-0, 5 KOs), climbs through the ropes at the MTN Arena in Kampala to face Tanzania’s Ramadhani Shauri (26-17-1, 13 KOs) for ABU Africa super-middleweight title.
Commenting on his Tanzanian opponent, Bwogi said: “He’s a good boxer, he’s been there and fought tough opponents and big titles, won some and lost some.”
Bwogi, who beat DR Congo’s Samuel Muloko last year at MTN Arena to clinch the regional ABU title, warned the Tanzanian boxer to prepare for a rough night.
“I’ll be his nightmare that day I’m looking forward to unleash terror on the Tanzanian, I can’t lose at home,” said an upbeat Bwogi, adding:” My ABU fight will feature some good and experienced Ugandan fighters like Joe Vegas Lubega, Nicholas Bule, Salimat Tebesigwa with foreign opponents, it’s a big show Ugandans should come in large numbers.”
The Ugandan southpaw boxer has not forgotten his roots at the popular East Coast Boxing Club in Naguru, Kampala. That’s where he’s training for his December 20 fight under former international boxers, the great Vicky Byarugaba and Khalili twin brothers Hussein and Hassan including their son Armyroon Farouk. His strength coaches are Mambo Habib and Allan Zolla.
Bwogi was to have fought Russia’s Xateab Shamil at his backyard on December 7, 2024, for WBA Inter-Continental title but the fight has been cancelled because his Russian opponent sustained an injury during a training session.
Victory for Bwogi on December 20 will inch him closer to his cherished ambition of becoming a world champion to emulate past Ugandan world champions such as Cornelius Boza-Edwards, Ayub Kalule and Kassim “The Dream” Ouma.
