BOXING CANCER KNOCKS OUT CAMEROON BOXERS IN GROZNY

▪️National team head coach Alain Didier Ngatcha cites biased officiating in the defeat of his boxers against Russian opponents

Cameroon boxers travelled to Russia with high hopes of excelling at an international tournament in Chechnya’s capital city Grozny, Russia.

They didn’t achieve their goal. Biased officiating, which has now become the cancer of boxing, denied them victories.

Their hopes of returning home with medals have therefore been dashed following controversial losses to Russian opponents, according to national team head coach Alain Didier Ngatcha.

“My boxers beat their Russian opponents but they stole all my victories. At the end the organizers recognized their injustices and asked for apology,” Ngatcha told boxersworld.co.ke from Grozny.

Went on the coach:”My boxers Oumarou Mohamed, Baguiguana Beb Georges and Wouang Marcial boxed very well against Russian opponents but the judges robbed them victory.

“As for Fotouo Totap Junior, after validating his medical examination and the official weighing, he had discomfort that did not allow him to fight. He felt unwell. He was to fight Kazakhstan boxer in the quarter-finals.”

The Grozny tournament was in memory of the first President of the Chechen Republic Akhmat Hadji Kadyrov.

JAW-DROPPING $200M AT STAKE IN CANELO, CRAWFORD BLOCKBUSTER SHOWDOWN

▪️It’s the biggest ever payday for the two superstars and could as well be Crawford’s retirement package

Terence “Bud” Crawford and Canelo Alvarez are set to make MILLIONS in their undisputed super-middleweight showdown on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

Millions of fans worldwide are eagerly waiting to watch this blockbuster showdown which will stream for free on Netflix, making it one of the biggest events in boxing history.

The total purse is valued at around $200M — with Canelo expected to pocket about $150M (£110M), while Crawford will take home roughly $50M (£38M).

For Canelo, this ranks among his most lucrative paydays: $100M vs William Scull, $45M in his trilogy fight with Gennady Golovkin, and $40M against Caleb Plant. For Crawford, his previous career-high was $25M for beating Errol Spence Jr. in 2023 — meaning this bout doubles his biggest ever purse. Ring analysts view this mouth-watering payment as Crawford’s retirement package.

Crawford has stressed he’s chasing legacy, not money, though he has admitted he’s getting a $50M purse for fighting Canelo, despite downplaying the wild rumors about even higher figures.

WHO ARE TERENCE CRAWFORD’S PARENTS? REAL REASON HIS MOTHER PAID KIDS TO BEAT HIM

WHO ARE TERENCE CRAWFORD’S PARENTS? REAL REASON HIS MOTHER PAID KIDS TO BEAT HIM

Terence Crawford is all set to go one-on-one against Canelo Alvarez on September 13, 2025, at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. Billed as a once-in-a-lifetime showdown between two of boxing’s most dominant forces, the undefeated Crawford is hoping to become the first male boxer in the modern four-belt era to win three undisputed championships.

And to do this, he will move up in weight to threaten Canelo’s rule at 168. But while fans focus on the fight’s stakes, few truly understand Bud’s family background, particularly the effect of his mother and father, who played very different but equally significant roles in his life that may help him grab the win in this bout. Intrigued? Well, let’s dive in so that you know all about ‘Bud’ and his personal life.

Everything about Terence Crawford’s mother, Debbie

Terence Crawford’s mother, Debbie Crawford, raised him in Omaha with a unique and often harsh approach. Rather than offering praise or gentle support, she pushed her son by setting challenges that most would consider extreme. Debbie reportedly encouraged local youngsters to fight Terence in their front yard, offering cash awards to toughen him up and make him listen.

“So she’ll get the little kids in the neighborhood $5 if they can win,” Crawford once shared on The Joe Rogan Experience. “We’ll be in the front yard. You know, I beat them all up.” Debbie’s parenting was based on tough love. She never celebrated his victories or showed overt affection. “I have never told him, ‘I love you,’” she confessed in an interview. “I never liked it as a kid; I never liked hugs or kisses, and it grew with me.”

However, Debbie’s harsh parental approach fueled a competitive fire in Bud that carried him throughout his boxing career. Every challenge, every punishment, fueled him with hatred and a need to prove himself. “Anything I did, whether it was in the ring or not, I wanted to win to prove a point to my mother because she would tell me I wasn’t good enough,” ‘Bud’ later confessed.

Despite the roughness, the undefeated boxer today recognizes how his mother’s approach helped shape him into a champion. “She was tough. I love my mom to death. That’s my heart,” he explained. Her steadfast conviction in his abilities and refusal to coddle him created the resilience that became his trademark.

Today, Terence Crawford‘s relationship with his mother has improved significantly, but he adopts a more supportive parenting style with his own children, vowing to be present and encouraging at all times—very different from the approach his mother preferred to take. But what about his father? Where was he during these ordeals?

What did Crawford’s father do?

In contrast to Debbie’s stern approach, Terence’s father, Terence Sr., provided warmth and support during his brief visits home. He was a Navy man who was often away, yet his presence had a lasting impact on Crawford. ‘Bud’ fondly recalls his father’s words, “He always told me he was proud of me… I used to cry when he left because my dad was like my best friend when he was there.”

Despite his absence, Terence Sr. played an important emotional role in his son’s life. Crawford adored every moment they were together, with his father often referring to him as their “million-dollar baby.” This bond made the separation difficult, but it also fostered in Crawford a strong desire to be present for his own children. “That’s my responsibility, to be there as their father,” he said on ESPN. “You can’t get those moments back.”

Crawford’s career flourished, and he sought methods to repay his father’s affection and support. On his father’s birthday, he gave him a new truck and shared the occasion with an emotional Instagram post: “Happy Birthday, Dad. Hope you enjoy your new truck.” Terence Sr., despite his absence for much of his son’s childhood, was a strong supporter, attending fights and expressing admiration for Crawford’s discipline and humility.

Though his mother helped forge his toughness and competitive mindset, Terence Crawford’s emotional grounding came from his father’s unrelenting pride and support, no matter how brief. Together, they laid the groundwork for him to turn his childhood struggles into a world-class boxing career, with love and discipline playing crucial roles in his journey. Now, it would be interesting to see if he beats the odds again by defeating Canelo Alvarez next!

ILLUNGA MAKABU RETAINS HIS WBC AFRICA BELT

Junior Ilunga Makabu successfully defended his WBC Africa cruiserweight title with a third-round victory, overwhelming Ghana’s Dodzi Kemeh.

The fight took place at the Martyrs Stadium in Kinshasa and was presented by Luyoyo Promotions.

Makabu started the bout cautiously in front of a supportive crowd. But, before the end of the first round, the former world champion landed a left hook on his opponent. In the second round, Kemeh didn’t back down, landing a few punches on Makabu. However, Junior remained composed while also connecting with the Ghanaian.

It was in the third round that Junior Makabu unleashed the full power of his left hook, landing a series of blows to Dodzi Kemeh’s head.

At the start of the fourth round, as Makabu was ready to continue the fight, Kemeh was unable to.

With pride, Makabu retained his WBC Africa belt, which he won in Kinshasa in December 2024. This victory puts Junior Makabu back on track to challenge for the world championship, a title he previously held and which is currently held by Badou Jack.

This fight was part of the celebration for the Year of Africa; earlier this year, the WBC named 2025 as the Year of Africa, and this event is expected to attract thousands of fans to the iconic Stade Des Martyrs, solidifying Kinshasa as a key hub on the professional boxing map in Africa.

DISCOVER SPORT LAUNCHES NEW SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORM

0

Discover Sport has officially launched a new social media platform dedicated solely to sport. Its purpose is simple: to give every athlete, everywhere, a voice.

The launch took place on September 2, 2025, at the office of South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC).

From grassroots players to global competitors, Discover Sport™ is a mobile-first, free-to-use platform where athletes can share their journey, connect with fans, and access new opportunities no matter their discipline, performance level or background.

“Ambition Lives Here is more than a strapline, it’s our DNA,” says Stephen Watson, Founder of Discover Sport™.

“This is a purpose-driven platform where athletes can tell their stories, fans can connect authentically, and brands can contribute to building sustainable sporting futures.”

A Platform Built for All of Sports

For too long, many athletes and sporting disciplines have been underrepresented. Discover Sport changes this by creating a home for every discipline. From swimming to padel, rugby to gymnastics, chess to showjumping – the new platform values every story and discipline equally.

Discover Sport brings together user-generated content and professional sports media. Athletes can share authentic stories, training clips, and highlights, while federations and media partners can showcase official broadcasts and documentaries.

Coaching, mentoring, and live streaming are embedded into the platform, creating opportunities for growth, visibility, and income generation.

Built to Empower
The platform also introduces breakthrough scouting tools, enabling agents, scouts, and managers to discover and monitor athletes across all disciplines. This ensures that potential is not defined by geography, income, or media coverage. The Scouting selection enables you to track individual athletes with whistle alerts about new content posts, and the Scouting catalogue filters ‘recommendation’ white noise and streamlines all scouted athlete content into one collection.

Key features of the platform include:
• Content Harmony – user-generated and professional sports content side by side.
• Coaching & Education – enabling all athletes and pros to publish training content, vlogs, and mentorship material.
• Live Streaming – providing visibility for approved competitions overlooked by mainstream broadcasters.
• Featured & Short-form Content – short-form content (less than 2 minutes) and Featured Content appear prominently on the User Interface.
• Sporting disciplines are categorised, with continuous additions being made to the Playbook.

Publishers (athletes) benefit from sharing their stories on the platform with a significant portion of future advertising revenue flowing back to athletes, teams, events and/or sporting establishments. In instances where a publisher’s/athlete’s own sponsor(s) advertise on the content to leverage the athlete’s social audience and association, category exclusivity can be respected and the majority of funds flow back to the profile holder/athlete.

For fans, Discover Sport™ also introduces ByteBucks™ (patent pending): a first-of-its-kind loyalty and rewards system that thanks and rewards fans for engaging with content and referring friends. Rewards are already redeemable across South Africa’s four major mobile networks (Vodacom, Telkom, MTN, Cell C) and will soon expand into sports ticketing, retail, and e-commerce partners.

Tested and Proven

In its South African pilot phase, Discover Sport™ streamed global and local events including the 2025 Invictus Games, WBC World Championship Boxing, the SA Davis Cup, IBERCUP and the 2025 World Games in Chengdu.

Alongside international broadcasts, Discover Sport worked directly with young athletes to improve their storytelling and digital presence, helping them grow followers, attract brands, and connect with fans.

Partnerships have already included Tennis South Africa, 360 Padel, Pirates Rugby Club, the South African Youth Showjumping Championship, Boxing South Africa, Beaulieu College, and IBERCUP.

Global support is growing, with sports magazine shows such as FEI’s RIDE, World of Sport, World of Free Sports, The Outdoor Sports Show, Gearing Up, Inside Sailing, and World Chess already hosted on the platform.

Early Adoption

During its six-month BETA phase, Discover Sport™ recorded encouraging growth. Over 1,800 user channels were created, and nearly 3,200 videos uploaded before launch – demonstrating strong early adoption and product-market fit.
Giving Back: The Discover Sport Foundation

Aligned with its mission, Discover Sport has established the Discover Sport Foundation, dedicated to supporting grassroots initiatives and underserved athletes.

Seeded during the pilot phase, the Foundation has already:
• Supported 52 young athletes to compete internationally,
• Upgraded two sports facilities, and
• Provided kits and equipment to eight youth sports initiatives.

The Foundation’s first international partners include Air France, KLM, and Delta Airlines, with more to follow.

“Our aim is to continue ensuring that talented athletes gain exposure to international competition, strengthening and uplifting the competitive spirit of sport,” says Watson.

A Global Movement

While launching in South Africa, Discover Sport is globally accessible, welcoming athletes, federations, fans, and brands everywhere. The ByteBucks rewards system rolls out locally in South Africa first, with phased international expansion ahead.

From a gymnast in California to a footballer on gravel roads in Africa, Discover Sport ensures that every athlete’s story has the power to inspire, connect, and be discovered.

“We’re building more than a platform. We’re building a community where ambition truly has a home. Factoring in user feedback received from our pilot period, our development roadmap has many more exciting features to come to drive home our purpose, create a positive impact for sport and a legacy for all participating athletes,” says Watson.

Available Now
Discover Sport™ is live and free to access on iOS, Android, and web. Register today at www.discoversport.com or on the platform.
