MWALE WINS WBC TITLE

Exactly 35 years after Zambian boxing icon Lottie Mwale claimed the WBC International title by defeating Ghanaian Ray Acquaye in Lusaka, history has repeated itself, this time through David “Sniper” Mwale.

On Saturday night, June 28, at the Government Complex in Lusaka, the Zambian bantamweight sensation defeated Ghana’s Michael Decardi Nelson in an electrifying 12-round bout to win the coveted vacant WBC International Bantamweight title.

World Boxing Council Vice-President Houcine Houichi (centre) supervised the title fight.

Mwale, known for his lightning-fast combinations, delivered a composed performance against a durable opponent in a fight witnessed by WBC Vice President Houcine Houichi, Ministry of Sports Youth and Arts Permanent Secretary Kangwa Chileshe, Director Gibson Muyaule and National Sports Council CEO Sombwa Musunsa.

Though Nelson showcased resilience and a strong chin, he couldn’t escape Mwale’s punishing blows.

The unbeaten Mwale has now won 11 fights, five on knockout.
