DR Congo’s national boxing team will tour Kenya next year for a new contest between the two countries in April .

Boxing Federation of Kenya (BFK) President Anthony “Jamal” Otieno announced this today in Dubai after a meeting with DR Congo’s federation boss Ferdinand Ilunga Luyoyo.

The two held talks on the sidelines of the IBA Global Forum and Congress at the Jumeira Beach Hotel in Dubai.

“I’m excited to announce we have agreed in principle to cooperate with DRC to speed up the development of boxing in Africa, starting with this new annual tournament,” Jamal told boxerworld.co.ke

“DRC will give us stiff competition which will be useful to boxers from the two countries as well as fostering unity among our youth,” said Jamal, adding that they have yet to agree on the name of the annual contest.

“We can call it Unity Cup, for instance but we will decide, we will discuss on other modalities like having it on a two-leg basis.”

In addition to DRC visiting Kenya, Jamal said BFK has lined up other international friendlies in Nairobi with Zambia earmarked for Jamhuri celebrations match in December, 2025.

“I have several big plans in the pipeline for Kenya boxing, just watch this space,” said Jamal.
