Zambia’s celebrated boxer Patrick “Baddo” Chinyemba put up a classic show as the rampant Zambian boxers whipped Russia 6-2 in an international friendly match in Lusaka on Friday, December 6.
Featuring in the main bout of the night, Chinyemba dominated the Russian in all three rounds, mixing boxing and entertainment to the loud applause of the packed house which enjoyed his ring antics.
It therefore came as no surprise when the skillful and talented Chinyemba, reigning African Games flyweight champion and Olympic Games quarter-finalist, was named the Best Boxer for his exemplary performance that had the crowd on the edge of their seats.
In the co-main fight, Commonwealth Games silver medallist Stephen Zimba was forced to use all tricks in the book to squeeze a close 3-2 win over Iangibaev Hlikhan.
Minimumweight Nene Maonga set Zambia on the winning trail with an emphatic 5-0 victory over Mikhail Propokyev and then featherweight Albert Ngulube gave Zambia their second win beating Vitaly Boytsiv 5-0 with World Championships quarter-finalist and 2022 Africa Championships gold me Andrew Chilata mercilessly hammering Rasul Magomedov 5-0.
Zambia’s two losers were African Games silver medallist Emmanuel Katema and African Games welterweight champion Gerald Kabinda with game Katema narrowly losing 3-2 to Mikhail Grigoryan and Kabinda going down 4-1 to Belevitin Daniel.
