EJIEKE OKECHUKWU SAYS YUCATECO LEAGUE HAS CHANGED HIS LIFE

The 27-year-old Nigerian light-middleweight boxer spoke to boxersworld.co.ke on the popular Yucateco Boxing League in Nigeria .

Tell us how you’ve benefitted from Yucateco League

I’ve benefited a lot from Yucateco boxing league in the aspect of exposure. I’ve traveled places I never thought of going if not for the YBL. I’ve met and know a lot useful contacts I wouldn’t have known if it were not for Yucateco.

How have you invested your money earned from the league?

Well I’ve not earned much money from YBL but talking about investment I have a business which still needs more money to make it strong, and so the money from YBL will help help me a lot to grow my business.

Has Yucateco league changed your life?

Yes, Yucateco has changed my life a lot. They gave me opportunities that I never thought of getting if not for them.

They put me in a position even some people with qualifications never had the opportunity to get.

They made my dream as a boxer more wider than it was.

Besides the money how else is the league helping in the development of Nigeria boxing?

The league is helping a lot of grassroots boxers in Nigeria in terms of experience and fighting in high standard boxing platform which they might never have the opportunity sooner if not for the league. It’s also helping in discovering young talented prospects and grooming them to become world champions.

If it were not for Yucateco league, where would you be now?

If not for Yucateco achieving the dream to become a champion in Nigeria is not easy.

I imagine myself still being in the trenches training every day fighting in local fights without a good platform to showcase my talent. I would still be looking for a way to be in the Nigeria national team which will be very difficult because they have their champions they always use when going for any international tournament.

Which year did you first get involved with boxing?

I started when I was young but my parents were not in support of it so I had to wait till I was old enough to take care of my self that was 2018 July when I officially entered into All Rounder boxing gym and my grassroots coach was Tunde Thomas. So far I have had 25 fights seven losses with three KOs.
